What is PAT Testing?
PAT Testing stands for Portable Appliance Testing. This basically means testing all electrical items that have a plug and are reasonably portable.
PAT Testing includes a visual inspection of the appliance and leads etc to make sure there is no damage and some electrical tests to make sure it is earthed correctly and there are no breaks in the cables or wiring.
Why should I have PAT Testing done?
There are 12500 electrical fires in britain every year and many of these are due to faulty appliances.
Many deaths and injuries result from poorly maintained electrical equipment and fires started by faulty electrical appliances. Around 1,000 electrical accidents at work are reported to the Health and safety Executive each year, of these, 30 people die of their injuries.
